Mayn yidishe mame

This song was copyrighted under the name "My Yiddishe Momme" by Jack Yellin and Lew Pollack in 1925 (renewed 1952). Zhelonek credits Sam Goldberg as the singer and includes in his book a hugely long "deklamatsiye" which I've put on the sheet music.

Sophie Tucker made the song a hit, recording it in Yiddish on one side of the 78 and in English on the other side. Here is her English version:



Conny Francis, Neil Sedaka and Tom Jones all recorded it, along with just about every Yiddish singer and klezmer band on the planet, so you don't need my version. Here's a link to the sheet music with translation, transliteration, and chords:
